With hunting gaining popularity this year, hunting
equipment, ammunition and even hunting land sales are hitting record numbers.
Experts expect many first-time hunters will also try their luck this season. If
you’re thinking of buying your own land to hunt on, here is some advice to help
you navigate the process.
Step one: Know Your Location
Where do you want to buy? The recommended distance away is
no more than three hours if the land doesn’t have housing, like a hunting cabin
or bunkhouse, on site. That way you’ll be able to get to your location by day
break and be able to be home at nightfall. It’s important that you also know
the area that you are looking at. Is the area known to have wildlife lingering
around? Are you familiar with access to and from the property?
Step two: Set Your Budget
Just like with any property you’d buy, you’ll need a budget
in mind so you know what you’re looking for. Hunting land can range from
$25,000 to millions depending on the acreage, location and the market. You’ll
also need to factor in travel expenses if you buy land far away from home or
need to stay in a hotel as well as for any hunting gear you might need.
Step three: Hire an Agent Who Specializes in Hunting Land
Not every real estate agent is going to know the ins and
outs of hunting land and land management. Find an agent who is well-versed in
this area (and is probably a hunter themselves). They can help walk you through
what the property needs and already offers like water access and food sources
like low hanging trees, leafy vines and other brush style vegetation. They’ll
